Onsen
Teshikaga - a beautiful town in Japan’s largest caldera, a huge hollow caused by volcanic eruptions.
Heated by the underground magma, Kawayu hot spring water flows out from the bedrock and is one of only a handful of hot springs in Japan with a unique, highly acidic quality.

Surrender to the beating heart of the land and the silence created by the great outdoors, an experience which can only be experienced during the polar winter of Teshikaga.
Fully enjoy local gastronomic delights, meet those who have made this land their home, discover their history and learn about their relationship with the natural world around them. 

Fully relax as you immerse yourself in the local hot spring, created by underground magma flows, an experience that is rare in Japan.

Come into contact with the mysteries of the great outdoors through snow hiking and canoeing, savour the sense of freedom in your mind while quietly facing the silent passage of time and experience emotion that can only be felt here at this time of year.

    Winter Hot Spring Walk along a steaming hot spring

    The Kawayu Hot Spring, which is one of the unique volcanic hot springs in Japan. Being either clear, or green in colour, it contains highly acidic hydrogen sulphide, which is said to improve one's nervous system, as well as enhancing the immune system. In addition to this, these unique hot springs also bring vibrancy and life to your skin, making you feel fully refreshed, and your skin feeling smooth and looking beaufitful.

    Canoe tour of Kushirogawa River

    Steam rises off the surface of the water, and the snow fields are lined with ice-covered trees. The silence and the serenity of this wonderous, fantastical world stretches out before you.

    Enjoy traditional Ainu cuisine.

    Enjoy the viewpoint of the Ainu Nibushi Area Snowshoe Tour

    Kussharoko, is one of Japan’s largest caldera lakes, where the winters are extremely harsh. Despite this, nature flourishes, and here you will encounter various animals such as swans, deer and foxes as you enjoy the special walking experience. On your walking tour around Nibushi at Lake Kussharo, you will also hear about the culture, history and lifestyle of the Ainu people.

What to bring

Wear warm clothing that allows you to move freely (down jacket, knitted hat, gloves, snow boots …)

Drinks will be offered at multiple points throughout the trip.

●This tour is weather-dependent. Therefore, parts of the programme are subject to change.
●Please wear suitable clothes and walking shoes/boots.
●There is no car park, so you are advised to use public transport.  
●Meals do not come with drinks. 

Precautions

●Part 1 is for less experienced walkers, and here, the distance we will cover will be around 4km.
●Part 2 is for experienced hikers, and walkers in which we will cover around 8km.  
●Please observe the Japanese traffic law
●Children at elementary school and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
●There is no meal provision for children younger than elementary school age.
●Alcohol is available at this event. If you do drink, please maintain responsibility.

We have outsourced the delivery of the trip to a regional agency, Japan Tourism Association. The tour arrangements are an agreed contract between the Japan Tourism Association and the customer. Thank you for your understanding.

To maintain safety, if the weather is poor outdoor activities/excursions may be cancelled. This decision is made by us, and is done so with the safety of our guests in mind. Unfortunately, in such circumstances, there will be no cancellation reimbursement. Thank you for your understanding.
