Savoring the Essence and Historical Heritage ofAsakusa through Traditional Japanese Cultural Experiences
Experience Asakusa Culture
This is a local cultural visitation program that delves into the essence of Asakusa by exploring the origins and connections of Sensoji Temple and Asakusa Shrines (Sanja), which are the spiritual pillars and anchors for the people in Asakusa.
Asakusa Shrine hosts the iconic Sanja Matsuri, one of Tokyo's most well-known festivals. During your visit here, you will experience a 'Formal Worship' ceremony by ascending to the existing main hall that has stood for approximately 350 years, surviving earthquakes and wars. During this ritual, you will witness a ceremonial dance performed by shrine maidens. Through these experiences, culminating in the ritualistic partaking of sacred sake, you will begin to gain a tangible understanding of the spiritual essence of the Japanese people.
